GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwood City Council awarded a $2.56 million bond issue after the winning interest rate came in almost a full point below the figure first forecast for the borrowing.

Municipal adviser Jamie Holloway of Government Consultants said Planters Bank submitted the lowest of four bids. Council members voted without dissent to accept the bank’s 4.57 percent offer. Holloway had first estimated interest would come in around 5.5 percent.

The city operates under a council-manager government led by Mayor Brandon A. Smith, a Greenwood native serving a second term through 2026 and overseeing a $69.2 million budget for fiscal year 2025.

The council gathers at City Hall, 520 Monument Street, using the chambers on the building’s second floor when sessions open at half past 5 in the evening.
