GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwood Christian takes its SCISA 2A playoff bid on the road Friday night against Calhoun Academy, a 7:30 p.m. opener at Calhoun Academy Stadium with tickets listed at $10.
The Hawks sit at 7-3 after finishing 2-2 in Region 2 and are chasing another deep run after back-to-back semifinal trips. Calhoun Academy enters at 7-2 and has averaged 45.3 points a game behind dual-threat senior quarterback Colt Layton.
Greenwood Christian counters with senior back Isaiah Scott-Palacios, who has piled up 1,687 rushing yards and 22 rushing scores, ranking third statewide. Senior quarterback Leland Reed has 11 touchdown passes as the air game has tightened in recent weeks.
Coach Will Rooney is banking on a senior-heavy group that stuck through the program rebuild and already survived tough Region 2 tests against Pee Dee Academy and Williamsburg Academy.
Greenwood Christian School, a private campus in Greenwood, is looking for one more postseason push before this senior class moves on.
