POWDERVILLE, S.C. — Emerald High hits the Class 3A bracket Friday night on the road against Powdersville, hoping a rematch goes better than the 41-21 setback the Vikings took from the Patriots two weeks ago.
The ball is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Powdersville High. Gate price is listed at $10. A win sends Emerald on to Wren on Nov. 13.
The Vikings wrapped the regular slate with a tight 35-30 defeat against Belton-Honea Path and now get another crack at Powdersville. In that earlier clash, Emerald jumped ahead 14-0 on a Joe Moore scoring run and a 64-yard Keirion Brown catch before Nasir Waldrop turned the game with a 44-yard burst and a 77-yard touchdown dash.
Coach Tad DuBose is treating Friday as a one-week job: go 1-0 and avoid the second-half slide that undid Emerald the last time these Region 2 foes lined up.
Emerald High School anchors west Greenwood campuses along the Emerald Road corridor and is chasing its first postseason victory of the fall Friday night.
