GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwood County voters sided with Republican Sen. Darline Graham on Tuesday, but the rest of South Carolina did not, and Democrat Annie Andrews won the U.S. Senate seat.

With all 50 county precincts in, unofficial returns gave Graham 12,618 votes, or 51.32%, in Greenwood County to 11,333 votes, or 46.09%, for Andrews. Libertarian Kasie Whitener and Constitution Party nominee Mark Hackett split another 573 votes, and 63 ballots were write-ins.

Statewide, Andrews was declared the winner with 1,034,191 votes to 947,861 for Graham with 96.6% of the vote counted. Graham has held the seat only since July 13, when Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her after the July 11 death of her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, who had served in the Senate since 2003. She then won the GOP nomination in an Aug. 25 runoff against Ralph Norman.

The county lined up with the state in the race for governor. The Republican ticket of Alan Wilson and Mike Reichenbach took 13,935 Greenwood County votes, or 56.64%, against 10,334, or 42%, for the Democratic pairing of Jermaine Johnson and Sam Skardon. Wilson won the governor’s office statewide, succeeding McMaster.

In the attorney general race, Republican David Stumbo carried the county with 14,688 votes, or 59.93%, over Democrat Richard Hricik, who drew 9,812. Late statewide returns showed Stumbo ahead 1,054,730 to 955,806.

Next door in Abbeville County, Republicans won all three top races by wider margins. Wilson took 63.34% there, Stumbo 65.65% and Graham 59.06%.
