A Life Well Lived
Born on December 18, 1926, in Newberry, Lois was the daughter of Ben M. and Mattie Waits Hughes. She grew up with a passion for music and community service. After graduating from Greenwood High School, she took her ambition to the next level and attended the Greenwood College of Commerce. Her journey was noteworthy, and she made significant contributions throughout her life.
Lois enjoyed a successful career at the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring in 1978. However, retiring didn’t stop her; she took on a new chapter by working several years at Greenwood Mop and Broom, where she made even more friends and enriched her life.
Faith and Family
For Lois, faith was at the core of her existence. A proud member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, she contributed her talents by playing the organ and taking part in the choir. Her music brought joy to many, and her voice will surely be missed during Sunday services. Throughout her life, she was seen as a beacon of light and comfort for the congregation and a pillar of the community.
Lois is survived by her loving son, Charlie Davis, and his partner, Paige, who live in Columbia, South Carolina. She also leaves behind two adoring grandchildren, Tyler Davis and his wife Madeleine from Charleston, as well as Hunter Davis from Columbia. Adding to her legacy, Lois was also the proud great-grandmother to Charlie and Evan Davis.
Remembering Those We Lost
Lois’ passing is a reminder that life can be fragile. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Ed Davis, and her daughter, Terri Davis. She also had three brothers who have since passed: Ed Hughes, Ben Hughes, and Harold Hughes. The love and support she shared with her family and friends will be cherished forever.
Celebrating Lois
To celebrate her remarkable life, funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday at Lowell Street United Methodist Church. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in their time of remembrance. Following the service, the family will graciously receive friends, making it a heartfelt opportunity for all to share stories and fond memories of Lois.
A private burial will take place at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, where Lois will rest peacefully alongside her loved ones. In recognition of the wonderful care provided to Lois during her final days, the Davis family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical and care staff of McLeod Hospice and The Manor.
