GREENWOOD, S.C. — Battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore will speak Thursday evening, Oct. 29, at Lander University in Greenwood on how Revolutionary War sites in South Carolina are found and protected.
The free talk, Battlefield Preservation and Discovery, starts at 5:30 and takes place in Room LC300 of the Marion Carnell Learning Center.
Ashmore looks after five Upstate battlefields and guides tours of them. A seventh-generation South Carolinian, he descends from Henry Durant, who scouted for Francis Marion. He has said at least 15 possible battle sites are still under study.
The program closes out the American Revolution Experience, a traveling exhibit of panels and touch-screen kiosks at Jackson Library that ends the same day. It was created by the American Battlefield Trust and the Daughters of the American Revolution and was brought to campus with the Issaqueena Chapter in Greenwood.
