NINETY SIX, S.C. — A 67-year-old man died Sunday after a tree fell on his home in Greenwood County during leftover Isaias weather, the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office said.
The coroner’s office said the victim was found dead in his home after a large tree collapsed onto the home during the severe weather. Officials described the death as weather-related.
Coroner’s officials said the man was pronounced dead at 12:21 p.m. Sunday in Ninety Six. Investigators said he was found on the west side of the residence after the tree struck the structure.
The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled accidental, according to the coroner. The office said the storm damage was tied to post-tropical depression Isaias moving through the area.
The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate. For Greenwood County, S.C., residents, the fatal home collapse shows how leftover tropical winds can still bring deadly debris onto houses after the storm’s peak.
