Greenwood, SC — Two beloved members of the community, Margaret J. Goodridge and Charles Ancel Holtzclaw, have recently passed away, leaving lasting legacies of love, family, and service.

Margaret J. Goodridge, who spent her final days at home, died on August 7, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 15, 1934, in Barberton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Goldie Howell Shriver. She was married for 61 years to Howard (Art) Goodridge, who predeceased her, along with their son, David P. Goodridge. Margaret is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kim Goodridge, and her daughters, Deborah Goodridge, June Moore, and Patricia Goodridge, as well as four grandchildren: Shawn (Nicole) Spitaleri, Jonathan (Marie) Goodridge, Kyle Goodridge, and Melissa Mitri. Additionally, she is remembered by three great-grandchildren: Dante Spitaleri, Nicholas Maxwell, and Sebastian Goodridge, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service held. Margaret will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to make donations to Gideon’s International to place Bibles in her name, instead of sending flowers.

Charles Ancel Holtzclaw, affectionately known as Charley, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on September 18, 1943, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to the late Charles Cape Holtzclaw and Alma Louise Roberson. Charley was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Holtzclaw, with whom he shared a remarkable 56 years of marriage.

Charley’s educational journey included his graduation from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, as well as further studies at Tri-County Technical College and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and later in the U.S. Navy. His dedication to service continued as he worked for the United States Postal Service as a postal carrier in Abbeville, South Carolina, followed by a role with the Greenwood Police Department.

Charley had a passion for sports, especially college football, basketball, and baseball, with a particular fondness for the UNC Tar Heels. He also contributed to local athletics as an umpire for high school sports, demonstrating his commitment to fair play and sportsmanship. In his leisure time, Charley enjoyed fishing, golfing, and shag dancing, a love he shared with members of the Greenwood Shag Club and at various North Myrtle Beach shag clubs.

He is survived by five children: Rick Holtzclaw, Michael Holtzclaw (Sandy), Stacey Forrester (Harrison), Janice Gassaway (Hugh), and Jon Holtzclaw (Jan). Charley will be fondly remembered by six grandchildren: Charley, Jon, Hunter, Chase, Harrison, and Shep, along with two great-grandchildren: Kristoffer and Johanna.

The community mourns the loss of both Margaret and Charley, celebrating their lives and the impact they had on those around them. Their legacies will continue to resonate, cherished by family, friends, and neighbors in Greenwood and beyond.
