Two teenagers have been charged after separate shooting incidents in Greenwood, raising concerns in the community. Authorities urge residents to report any information related to these shootings.

Greenwood, South Carolina – Two teenagers have been charged following two separate shooting incidents that occurred within the city, leading to heightened concerns among residents and a temporary lockdown of a nearby healthcare facility. On Wednesday evening, police reported that two suspects, aged 16 and 17, are facing multiple charges after gunfire struck three apartments on Holman Street. The police are actively investigating the origins of the weapon used in that incident and are exploring possible connections to recent auto break-ins in the area.

In the first incident on Wednesday, deputies with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office assisted local police with a shooting on the 700 block of Truett Avenue around 4:15 p.m. One victim was shot during this incident; however, the status of the victim remains unknown. As a precaution, law enforcement advised residents to avoid the vicinity and to stay indoors while the situation unfolded.

The shooting suspect initially fled to a house located on the 800 block of Truett Avenue, where they ultimately surrendered to officers after being instructed to exit the residence. Following the incident, the suspect was detained by police, and an update later confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the community. In response to the shooting, the South Regional Healthcare Emergency Care Center, located approximately five minutes from Truett Avenue, was placed on lockdown as a standard procedure to ensure safety.

In a related event later that night, the Greenwood police were alerted to another shooting at approximately 7:17 p.m. on Holman Street. Gunfire during this incident struck three apartments and was reportedly linked to a dispute involving juveniles. Authorities swiftly apprehended two teenagers in connection with this shooting. The 16-year-old suspect is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility in Columbia, while the 17-year-old, identified as Jalen Amarian Williams, is being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center.

Both individuals face serious charges, including multiple counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Investigators are still working to establish the origin of the firearm used in the Holman Street incident, and they have not ruled out the potential for further charges as the investigation continues. Residents are encouraged to provide any information they may have regarding this incident or the suspects involved by contacting the Greenwood City Detective Division at 864-942-8407.

The Greenwood community has expressed concern regarding the recent violence, prompting law enforcement to increase their presence in the area in hopes of preventing further incidents. The safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority for local law enforcement, who are committed to apprehending those responsible for violent crimes.

As investigations continue into both shooting incidents, local authorities are stressing the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. The Greenwood police have reassured the public that steps are being taken to enhance safety measures and address the underlying issues contributing to such incidents.

Community members are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings and to take precautions, especially given the occurrence of disputes among juveniles linked to gun violence. Law enforcement officials are actively seeking collaboration from the public to stem the tide of violence in the area.
