NEWBERRY, S.C. — A German ceramics coating firm has picked Newberry County for its first U.S. production site, committing about $800,000 and 15 positions while filling an empty building in the county industrial park.
Vitreus USA, owned by Vitreus GmbH, works out of 200 Park Ave. in Newberry. The shop makes surface finishes for the brick and roof-tile trade, including colored coatings used on facing brick and clay tile.
The line is already running through shakedown trials as output ramps. Company leaders said years of shipping product from Europe into a growing North American customer base made a local plant the next step for faster, more flexible service.
Gov. Henry McMaster and Commerce Secretary Harry M. Lightsey III backed the move and pointed to the state Landing Pad Program. County Council Chairman Karl Sease called the investment a lift for local wages and a way to put idle park space back into use.
SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace framed the plant as another advanced-manufacturing win that can lean on statewide port links to overseas markets. Hiring is open; applicants can write [email protected].
