GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville County deputies have rolled out Safe Outcomes, a sticker alert meant to flag cars and homes where someone with autism may need a different approach from first responders.
A small marker on a rear glass or a front door is supposed to cue arriving crews that communication may take more care, cutting stress for the person with autism and for the officers on scene.
The markers are free at the Central Annex on Pendleton Street in Greenville, at 1200 Pendleton Street. Households new to the roster enroll a family member when they stop by for a sticker.
Caretakers may also file voluntary notes that help deputies search for a missing relative without turning to tracking gear, the sheriff office said.
Leaders describe the aim as safer traffic stops and house calls once responders know autism could shape how someone answers or reacts under pressure.
