GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwood County voters no longer have to wait for Election Day. Early voting for the Nov. 3 statewide general election opened Monday, Oct. 19, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 31.
Three early voting centers are serving the county: Noah J Events on Hampton Avenue (No. 115) in Greenwood, the Little River Multicultural Complex at 415 Riley Road N. in Hodges, and the Ninety Six Visitor’s Center at 97 Main St. East in Ninety Six. Any registered voter in the county may use any of the three, no matter where their regular precinct is.
Doors are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, for two weeks. The first week ends Saturday, Oct. 24, and the second runs from Oct. 26 to Oct. 31. There is no early voting on Sunday.
Voters need to bring a photo ID and will cast ballots on the same machines used at regular polling places on Election Day.
City of Greenwood residents have local races on their ballots this year. The mayor’s seat, City Council Wards 2, 4 and 6, and a seat on the Commission of Public Works are all up for election, and those city contests are nonpartisan. The mayor serves a four-year term and is chosen citywide, while each council member must live in the ward he or she represents.
Should any race go to a runoff, early voting for it would be held Nov. 11 through Nov. 13. Questions about ballots, wards or registration go to the Greenwood County Voter Registration and Election Office at 864-942-8585.
