Greenwood, South Carolina is buzzing with excitement after the South Carolina Festival of Flowers brought home a treasure trove of six awards from the prestigious 2024 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards. The ceremony took place on September 29 during the IFEA Annual Convention & Expo held in the lively city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This beloved festival, organized by the Greenwood S.C. Chamber of Commerce and graciously presented by Wesley Commons, shone brightly in numerous categories. The festival nabbed a gold award for both the Best Facebook Site and Best Cover Design, proving its prowess in modern social media strategies and eye-catching visuals. But that’s not all! The festival also garnered silver awards for Best Radio Promotion and Best Organization Website, delighting festival-goers and online visitors alike. Bronze awards were won in the Best TV Promotion and Best Single Magazine Display Ad categories, rounding out a spectacular haul.
The 2024 festival’s theme, “See What the Buzzz is About,” captured the imagination of participants and visitors alike, marking the sixth time this festival’s marketing creativity has been recognized. This event has become a symbol of community pride and economic vitality, as emphasized by local leaders in honor of the bustling spirit it brings to Greenwood.
Volunteers play a crucial role in making these festivities a success, and this year, Donna Dolphin was recognized as a 2024 IFEA Semi-Finalist for Volunteer of the Year. Her dedication and hard work exemplify the heart and soul that goes into organizing such a vibrant festival.
As if the festival wasn’t splendid enough, this year also featured the 2024 South Carolina Festival of Flowers Juried Youth Art Show. This lively event showcases the artistic talents of local youth and takes pride in its diverse range of artwork displayed. Tinsley Chadwick from Greenwood High School stole the show by winning first place in the high school division with her dazzling piece titled “Colorful Creepy Crawlies.” Braxton Dahmer, also from Greenwood High, dazzled judges as well, claiming the second-place award for his captivating artwork entitled “Monochrome Refractions.”
But the celebrations didn’t stop there! The younger participants from grades 1-5 also showcased their bright imaginations with first place going to Eliana Kohler for her delightful piece “Cold Unicorn.” The art entries showcased a stunning array of mediums ranging from crayons to acrylics, watercolors, and vibrant gel pens, turning the exhibition into a true feast for the eyes.
This year’s juried youth art awards boasted a total of $1,000 in prizes, celebrated during an awards ceremony at the Arts Center of Greenwood. The youth art show has been a pivotal part of the festival since its establishment in 2015, made possible through a wonderful partnership with and funding from the Self Family Foundation. The ongoing success of this initiative amplifies the importance of supporting and nurturing artistic talents in the community.
As Greenwood reflects on a year filled with creativity, recognition, and community spirit, the South Carolina Festival of Flowers continues to bloom, promising even more excitement for years to come. Make sure to mark your calendars for next year’s festivities—you won’t want to miss the vibrant celebrations!
