Sandra Norris Fleming, aged 82, of Abbeville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025. She succumbed to her health challenges at the Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, Hospice House, surrounded by her loved ones. Sandra was the cherished wife of Samuel E. Fleming, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Abbeville, SC, Sandra was the daughter of the late J.E. Norris, Jr. and Rebecca Trippe Norris. She graduated from Abbeville High School in 1961 and devoted her life to her family and faith. As a long-time member of South Side Baptist Church, she enjoyed sharing her warmth and kindness with her church community. Sandra’s involvement in the Friendship Sunday School Class brought her comfort and close bonds with fellow church members.
Throughout her life, Sandra dedicated herself to nurturing children. She operated Mrs. Sandra’s Daycare for many years, where she lovingly tended to the needs of many local families. Her love for children and commitment to family extended beyond her daycare, as she was an attentive and caring mother and grandmother.
Family Legacy
Sandra is survived by her husband, Samuel E. Fleming; her children Gregory E. Fleming (Kerry) of Abbeville, Janet F. Campbell (Trampus) of Due West, and Jennifer F. Carnley (Kenny) of Greenwood. She is also survived by her brother, Ed Norris, who resides in Whidbey Island, Washington, and has been a supportive presence in her life. Sandra was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Samantha (John Robert), Brooke (Trevor), Jonathan, and Te. Additionally, she was proud to be a great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren: Hayden, Baylor, and Tate.
Preceding Family Members
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Russell Fleming, her daughter-in-law Diane Fleming, and her sister Brenda N. Fort, each of whom held a special place in her heart. The loss of these family members has left a profound impact on Sandra’s life and her surviving family.
Life Celebration and Memorial Contributions
A celebration of Sandra’s life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at South Side Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Joel Bradberry. Following the service, the family will have a gathering to receive friends and reminisce about the remarkable woman Sandra was and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Samaritan’s Purse or Our Farm – A Place for Us Ministries, organizations that were important to Sandra and reflect her compassion and love for others.
