Abbeville, SC – The community of Abbeville is in mourning following the death of Maxine Terry McDougal, a cherished matriarch who passed away at the age of 91 on May 21, 2025. Her last moments were spent at Ansley Glen in Greenwood, SC, where she had resided for some time.
Originally hailing from Vinita, Oklahoma, Maxine was born to the late Everett and Edna Parnell Terry. She graduated from Weatherford Junior College and later dedicated her career as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Carolina Fabrication Sales, located in Easley, SC. Maxine was a dedicated member of her community and actively participated in local organizations, including the Pomaria Eastern Star and the Mesopotamia United Methodist Church in Gaffney, SC.
Maxine’s passion extended beyond her professional life; she was a devoted follower of Alabama Softball and found joy in activities such as fishing, traveling, and relaxing by the lake. She was affectionately known as ‘Nana’ among her family and friends, who considered her the steady rock of her family. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support left a profound impact on those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wayne ‘Mac’ McDougal, as well as two sisters, Peggy King and Carmaleta Lorenz. Maxine is survived by her three daughters: Carol Boothe of Berea, SC, Sherry Duncan of Abbeville, SC, and Cathey ‘Charlie’ McDougal of Gaffney, SC. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Ashlea Duncan, Brandon Duncan, Josh Alman, and Sam Alman, along with two step-grandchildren, Teresa and Johnny. In addition, Maxine was a proud grandmother to six great-grandchildren: Parker, Paisley, Kenadee, Cali, Jordyn, and Dax. Her sister, Shirley Collins, resides in Broken Arrow, OK.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on May 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville, SC. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Angelia Price officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC. Family members have shared that they will be receiving guests at the home of Larry and Sherry Duncan.
In honor of Maxine’s memory, memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Children’s Greenville or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Those wishing to send online condolences may do so via the Harris Funeral Home website.
