New Online Master’s Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice Launched by Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C.—

State and local government employees, as well as law enforcement officers, now have access to a new and convenient path to further their education with Lander University’s recently launched online Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. This new program has received full approval from both the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The master’s degree is tailored for working professionals in the fields of criminology and criminal justice. Graduate students enrolled in this program will cover a broad range of topics including crisis communication, crisis leadership, mental health, and first responders, as well as research methods and theory and policy. The program is structured to include six core courses and four elective courses of the students’ choice, totaling 30 credit hours. The entire course can be completed online, making it ideal for working adults, and can be finished within two years or less.

Dr. Lucas McMillan, dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, highlighted the relevance and importance of the program. “Students will learn about the legal and social problems they will face in the workforce, including addiction, domestic violence, and human trafficking,” McMillan said. “Our graduates will be primed for increased leadership responsibilities in their careers.”

The program’s curriculum was meticulously developed through strategic collaborations with law enforcement, government, and security-related organizations. The main goal is to teach students exactly what they need to know to succeed in their roles as criminologists and criminal justice professionals.

Dr. Lloyd Willis, dean of the College of Graduate and Online Studies, also expressed his enthusiasm for the program. “Lander University has a strong tradition of providing online education for working adults, and this new program is an outstanding addition to our catalog of online programs,” Willis said. “The South Carolina law enforcement community was instrumental in our development of this program, and we look forward to serving its members as they return to school to advance their careers.”

Beyond just convenience and flexibility, the online master’s program is designed to provide practical and immediately applicable skills. Students will delve into real-world issues prevalent in the criminal justice sector, such as addiction, domestic violence, and human trafficking, as outlined by Dr. McMillan. This focused education aims to prepare them not just for job placements but for taking on leadership roles within their respective fields.

For those interested in learning more about this new and exciting opportunity, additional information is available on the official website.
