Born on June 17th, 1951, in Greensboro, N.C., Janet was the daughter of Glen Martin Macy and Selma Rush Macy. She was a bright student who graduated from Greenwood High School in South Carolina in 1969 and later earned her degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., in 1973. Following her college graduation, Janet embarked on extensive travels in Europe, which enriched her life experiences and broadened her horizons.
For many years, Janet called the Boston, Massachusetts area home, where she held a position at Harvard University. Her professional journey showcased her intellect and resilience, contributing to the academic community. Later in life, she settled in Asheville, N.C., and spent significant time in Brunswick, Maine, where she further engaged with local arts and crafts.
Janet was an active supporter of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. She participated regularly in the school’s pre-session activities, volunteering her time and skills to help others. Her dedication to crafts highlighted her creative side and her commitment to fostering artistic expression within the community.
A longstanding connection to her roots was reflected in Janet’s tradition of attending her high school class reunions in Greenwood, where she cherished the friendships she had built over the years. Although she experienced profound loss, having been predeceased by her long-time special friend, Martin Annis, Janet’s life continued to be enriched by the company of her surviving family and friends.
She leaves behind her brother, Paul Macy, and Kay Herr of Greensboro, N.C., as well as numerous cousins and dear friends, including sisters Mandy and Melissa Annis. Janet’s impact on those around her will be fondly remembered as a testament to her selfless nature and vibrant personality.
To honor Janet’s memory, a service of remembrance is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, S.C. This gathering will provide a space for family, friends, and community members to celebrate her life and legacy.
