The South Carolina Office of Resilience is hosting a public meeting on June 12, 2025, at The Arts Center of Greenwood to gather community input on the Hurricane Helene Disaster Recovery Action Plan. Residents are encouraged to participate and share their thoughts on the allocation of over $150 million in federal recovery funds aimed at supporting various recovery initiatives, including housing repairs and mitigation efforts.

Greenwood, SC – The South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) is set to host a public meeting on June 12, 2025, at The Arts Center of Greenwood, aimed at gathering community input on the state’s Hurricane Helene Disaster Recovery Action Plan. This critical meeting will allow residents to voice their opinions on the allocation of over $150 million in federal recovery funds.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Arts Center, located at 120 Main St, Greenwood. All South Carolina residents, regardless of their county of residence, are encouraged to attend and participate.

During the meeting, SCOR will present a draft Action Plan that outlines how the $150.3 million in federal disaster relief funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be utilized. These funds are allocated through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program.

Plan Details and Community Assistance

The draft Action Plan includes several initiatives aimed at recovery and resilience, including funding for:

  • Repairs to single-family homes
  • Rehabilitation of affordable rental housing
  • Voluntary property buyouts
  • Mitigation efforts to minimize future disaster risks

In addition to presenting the draft plan, SCOR’s disaster case management team will be in attendance to assist storm survivors with their ongoing needs and concerns related to Hurricane Helene.

Public Input and Feedback Opportunities

The public input gathered during this meeting is vital as it will inform the final version of the Action Plan before submission to HUD. Residents who are unable to attend can still review the draft plan online at scor.sc.gov/helene and submit their comments through mid-June. Written feedback can be directed to SCOR at 632 Rosewood Drive, Columbia, SC 29201.

All verbal and written public input will be summarized and included in the final report of the Action Plan, ensuring that community voices are heard and considered in the decision-making process.

Background on Hurricane Helene Recovery

The recovery efforts are a response to the damages caused by Hurricane Helene, which impacted numerous communities across South Carolina. The HUD funding is part of a broader effort to facilitate recovery following natural disasters, aiming to restore and enhance the housing stock while investing in disaster resilience initiatives.

SCOR is committed to engaging with communities affected by Hurricane Helene, recognizing that the recovery process is a collaborative effort that requires input and feedback from the residents directly impacted by the storm.

This public meeting serves not just as a bureaucratic formality, but as a crucial platform for community members to influence recovery policies that will shape their neighborhoods in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
