Exciting Holy Week Events Coming to Greenwood!

Get ready, Greenwood! This year’s Holy Week promises to be filled with inspiring church events and worship experiences that bring the community together. As local churches open their doors, they invite everyone to participate in a week-long celebration leading up to Easter Sunday. Mark your calendars, and prepare your hearts for a journey of reflection, remembrance, and renewal!

Experience Maundy Thursday at South Main Baptist Church

On April 17, 2025, South Main Baptist Church will be hosting a special Maundy Thursday service that you won’t want to miss. Located at 1000 S. Main St., this service will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and promises to be a moving experience for all attendees.

This year’s service features the South Main Choir and Full Orchestra, creating a beautiful ambiance to complement the evening’s events. The theme for this Maundy Thursday is a “Tenebrae” worship experience, which aims to recreate the emotional and spiritual journey through the passion story of Jesus.

Throughout the service, participants will explore profound themes of Jesus’ betrayal, abandonment, and the agony He faced on the cross. Instead of a joyful atmosphere, the tone will lean heavily on reflection, encouraging worshipers to engage deeply with their thoughts and emotions. The service will conclude with the Gospel message left unfinished, inviting attendees to carry the story forward into the hope of Easter Sunday.

There is no charge for this beautiful worship experience, making it accessible to everyone. Additionally, for those with little ones, a nursery will be available during the event. For further details, feel free to call 864-223-4377.

Holy Week Gatherings at Tranquil United Methodist Church

Not far from South Main, Tranquil United Methodist Church is lining up several engaging events throughout Holy Week. Starting on April 13, join Rev. Chris Lollis at 5 p.m.. After the service, a potluck dinner will follow, inviting community members to share in fellowship and good food.

On April 14, Rev. Joey Gambrell takes the lead at 6 p.m.. Then, on April 15, join Rev. Thessa Smith and the choir for a performance at 6 p.m.. Services continue with a Holy Thursday event on April 17 at 6 p.m., and a Good Friday service on April 18 at 6 p.m.. Finally, the Easter Sunday worship service will be held on April 20 at 10 a.m., though Sunday School will not meet that day.

Palm Sunday at Harris Baptist Church

Another exciting event kicking off the Holy Week festivities is the Palm Sunday worship program presented by the music department at Harris Baptist Church. This uplifting event will take place on April 13 at 6 p.m., at their location of 300 Center St. in the Harris Community. Under the direction of Paige Flitz, attendees can look forward to a spirited celebration of faith and music.

Don’t Miss the LRMBA One-Day Session

For those involved with local ministries, the LRMBA One-Day Session will kick off at 3 p.m. at the Multicultural Complex in Hodges. Dr. Bobby Duke will be the preacher for this session, which promises to be an enriching experience for attendees.
