He is remembered for his dedication to family and passion for the outdoors. Dennis served in the U.S. Army and subsequently worked for over 20 years at Hillman Barge. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and several grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will be cherished by family and friends alike.
East Millsboro – Dennis R. Waters, a cherished member of the East Millsboro community, passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. His death marks the end of a life filled with love and dedication to his family and the outdoors.
Born on August 18, 1947, in Brownsville, Dennis was the son of the late Ray and Letha Walters Waters. He graduated from Redstone High School in 1965, after which he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1966 to 1968. This period of his life instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his years.
After his military service, Dennis worked for over 20 years at Hillman Barge, where he became known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he was an avid lover of the outdoors, engaging in activities such as hunting and crafting. In his later years, he found joy in riding his E-Bike, enjoying the nature around him.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Cheryl Baum Waters, and two daughters. His daughter, Marcie Sue Waters, resides at home, while his other daughter, Billie Jean Miller, is married to David Miller and lives in Greenwood, SC. The family has also expanded, as Dennis was the proud grandfather of one grandson, Bryce Dolata, and two granddaughters, Casey Renee Collins and Aubrey Lynn Davis. Casey is married to Aaron Collins, and Aubrey is married to Zak Davis. In addition, he enjoyed being a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren, Theo Collins and Naomi Collins.
He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Waters and Harold “Gitch” Waters, along with their wives, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The loss of Dennis will be deeply felt not only by his immediate family but also by the wider community who he touched with his kindness and generosity.
A time of fellowship and gathering will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 3, 2025. The memorial service honoring Dennis’ life will be held at the First Nazarene Church of Allison, conducted by Pastor Roger Diehl.
Throughout his life, Dennis R. Waters exemplified what it meant to be a devoted family man and a friend to many. His legacy will live on through the lives he impacted and the memories cherished by those who loved him.
