Chapin, SC – Chapin-Newberry Post Baseball Team Concludes Season with Split at Home

The Chapin-Newberry Post baseball team wrapped up their 2023 season at the Smith Road Complex on the campus of Newberry College with two home games on July 14 and July 15. The team finished the season with an overall record of 8-9 and a league record of 4-8, missing out on the playoffs for this year.

In their final games, Chapin-Newberry faced Richland Post 215, managing a split after losing the first game 8-4 but securing a victory in the second game with a close score of 4-2. This result was not enough for the team to qualify for the playoffs, as they needed to win both games and receive additional help.

Game Highlights

In the decisive second game, starting pitcher Tyler Graham delivered a strong performance, pitching all seven innings. Graham allowed seven hits and only two runs while striking out one batter. His effort helped Chapin-Newberry take an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning.

However, Richland Post responded with two runs in the second inning, tying the game. Chapin-Newberry regained the lead in the fifth inning, scoring another two runs to secure the win.

Caden Reeves had a significant impact in the final game, finishing with three hits, including two singles and a double, along with two RBIs. Additional contributions came from Bobby Gummere, who recorded an RBI single, and Maddox Floyd, who had a hit and scored two runs.

This conclusion to the season marks the second year for head coach Ryan Stoudemire, who previously led the team to a deep playoff run last summer.
