Evansville, IN – Arden Bien, a cherished family man and active member of his community, passed away on May 11, 2025, just 24 days shy of his 77th birthday. Bien was known for his warm personality and deep commitment to family and friends, leaving a lasting legacy through his numerous contributions to both his loved ones and local organizations.

Born in Webster, South Dakota, Arden’s childhood included living in Germany due to his father’s military career. He held fond memories of his time in Kentucky and Indiana, where he spent several summers on family farms in South Dakota, enriching his childhood experiences. His upbringing also included a period of being raised by his grandmother Frances in a one-room school in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Arden graduated from the original Central High School in Evansville in 1968, later enhanced by his education at Lockyear Business School.

Arden served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 from August 5, 1968, to August 4, 1971. He was stationed at Senica Army Depot in Romulus, New York. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Evansville, Indiana, where he married his high school sweetheart. The couple welcomed their first child, Angela, in 1970, followed by the birth of their son, Daniel.

Bien dedicated a significant portion of his life to his career as a truck driver, a profession he pursued until his retirement in 2015. In 1986, he met Janice, the woman who would become his second wife in 1994. The couple shared a love for travel and were actively involved with the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Arden was an enthusiastic individual who enjoyed golfing, fishing, billiards, cards, and board games. He was well-known for his playful nature with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, affectionately earning the nickname “Bestie” from his great-granddaughter Amira. His genuine concern for others, along with his kindness and quick wit, made him a beloved figure in his community.

In addition to his family activities, Arden was deeply rooted in his faith and valued his church community. He held special appreciation for Pastor Carl Mann and regularly participated in church activities. His passion for classic cars often sparked conversations in which he shared cherished memories of his 1956 Chevy Belair, 1971 VW convertible, and 1965 Chevy Impala.

Arden is survived by his wife Janice, son Daniel Bien (Tabitha), daughters Angela Gardner (Dickie), Amity Greenwell, Sara Speicher (Eric), and sister Dorothy Steiner (Glen). His legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will remember him as a loving and caring presence in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Omar Bien, mother June Darlene (Atkinson) Bien, and sister Linda Green. In his honor, memorial contributions can be made to New Horizon Fellowship Church or the Christian Motorcycle Association – Evansville Word Warriors Chapter. As per Arden’s wishes, no services will be held, but condolences can be expressed online.
