GREENWOOD, S.C. — A clownfish’s search across the ocean for his missing son comes to the Greenwood Community Theatre stage this week, as the company opens Disney’s Finding Nemo JR. on Thursday, Oct. 22.
The family musical runs four days. Evening curtains are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Saturday has both a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7:30 p.m. show, and the run closes with a 2 p.m. performance Sunday, Oct. 25.
Seats cost $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and military members, $20 for students and $18 for kids under 12. The box office, at the theater at 110 Main Street, takes calls at 864-229-5704 and is staffed Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 2 to 5 p.m.
The show trims the 2003 Pixar film into a one-hour stage version and adds songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Its plot follows Marlin, a nervous father, who leaves his anemone on the Great Barrier Reef to track down Nemo after the young fish is carried off to Sydney. Dory, the easygoing sea turtle Crush and the aquarium crew known as the Tank Gang help along the way.
Greenwood Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is sponsoring the production, and Duke Energy is the theater’s season sponsor. The theater is a nonprofit run by a board of directors, and it bills its work as theater made by and for the community.
Next up for the company is the holiday musical White Christmas.
