GREENWOOD, S.C. — A violent parking lot fight at Boxwood Terrace Apartments in Greenwood this month has nothing to do with the three shootings at the complex that deputies are still trying to solve, the sheriff’s office says.
Deputies were called to the complex on Durst Avenue East on Oct. 10 after a report that two people were fighting and that one had a gun and the other a knife. Deputies arrested a Greenwood man, 19. The charges listed include a high-and-aggravated assault and battery count and a charge of having a weapon during a violent crime. Deputies’ written account does not establish that anyone fired a shot.
Neighbors who saw the heavy law enforcement response feared another shooting. A captain with the sheriff’s office said the fight is not connected to any of the open shooting investigations.
Investigators think the gunfire on July 3, July 8 and Sept. 14 came from linked incidents. Gunfire hit apartments and vehicles, and the same building was struck each time, but no one has been hurt. So far, deputies have not named a suspect or identified a vehicle.
The sheriff’s office runs victim services through its criminal investigations division, which helps crime victims understand court procedures and keeps them updated on court dates and where things stand.
Felony cases from Greenwood County are prosecuted by the 8th Circuit solicitor’s office, which covers Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry counties.
