GREENWOOD, S.C. — Democrat Jumelle Brooks captured the Greenwood-area seat in South Carolina House District 12 on Tuesday, turning Republican Rep. Daniel Gibson out of office two years after he beat her for the same seat. Next door in District 13, Republican Rep. John McCravy won another term by a comfortable margin.

Brooks led Gibson 7,550 votes to 6,198 in unofficial returns, a split of 54.90% to 45.07% and a gap of 1,352 votes. Four ballots went to write-in names. Her district stretches over all of McCormick County and a slice of Greenwood County.

The outcome flips the 2024 rematch. That year Gibson kept the seat with 8,251 votes, or 52.3%, to 7,527 for Brooks. He first won it in 2022 by defeating Democratic Rep. J. Anne Parks, and neither he nor Brooks faced a primary this year.

In District 13, which takes in parts of Greenwood and Laurens counties, McCravy finished with 11,235 votes, or 66.88%, against 5,548 votes, or 33.03%, for Democrat C. Rauch Wise. Sixteen write-in votes were cast. McCravy has held the seat since 2016, and in 2024 he won it with 15,880 votes over Democrat Bill Kimler.

Every county in both districts had reported by the end of the night. The totals remain unofficial until they are certified. Members of the South Carolina House serve two-year terms and face no term limits.
