GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Greenwood High girls tennis team will try to extend its longest postseason stay in six years on Tuesday, when the sixth-seeded Eagles travel to Anderson to meet No. 3 seed T.L. Hanna in the second round of the Class 4A Upper State playoffs.

Greenwood got there by beating No. 11 Indian Land in Thursday’s opener, played at Lander University’s Joe Cabri Tennis Center in Greenwood. It was the program’s first playoff victory since 2020. The Eagles took four of the five singles matches and added a win at No. 2 doubles to close it out.

Keaton Willard rallied at No. 2 singles after losing the opening set, winning 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 with a tiebreak in the deciding set. Alli Cox won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, Annie Eisenreich did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep, and Caroline McCartha won 6-1, 6-2. Evey Hook and Anna Brooke Cadden took the doubles point by a pair of 7-5 sets.

Tuesday brings a rematch with a familiar region foe. Hanna blanked Greenwood 6-0 on its home courts on Oct. 15, a result that locked up a fourth region crown in a row for the Yellow Jackets and the 27th in school history. The second-round match is set for 5 p.m. at Hanna.
