ANDERSON, S.C. — Greenwood High School heads to Westside Stadium in Anderson at 7:30 p.m. Friday to meet a Westside team ranked No. 1 in the South Carolina prep football media poll, and the Eagles need a big result to keep their playoff hopes moving.
Greenwood carries a 3-5 record, with a 1-2 mark against region opponents. Westside arrives at 7-1 and unbeaten in region play at 3-0, riding a six-game winning streak that included a 56-42 win over Fountain Inn a week ago.
The Eagles are coming off a 38-0 home loss to T.L. Hanna on senior night. Injuries have hit both lines, and the team’s sophomore quarterback hurt his arm against Midland Valley and is not expected to take snaps at the position again this fall.
The schedule leaves Greenwood with two regular-season games. Two wins would all but lock up a postseason berth, while a split would leave the Eagles counting on help from other results.
History favors the visitors in this matchup. Greenwood holds a 12-6 edge over Westside across 18 all-time meetings.
Tickets cost $10 at the gate.
