GREENWOOD, S.C. — Young people in the Greenwood area can get a free look at their hometown from the air Saturday, Oct. 24, when the local Experimental Aircraft Association chapter holds a Young Eagles Rally at Greenwood County Airport.

EAA Chapter 1023 will be flying from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The rides, which loop over Greenwood, are open to anyone from age 8 through 17 and cost nothing.

A parent or legal guardian has to come along and sign the registration paperwork at the airport before a child can board.

Young Eagles dates back to 1992 and puts kids in the seat of a general aviation airplane, with pilots who belong to EAA donating their time and aircraft. Nationally, the program has taken more than 2 million young people up for a flight, with the goal of sparking an interest in aviation careers and hobbies.
