GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwoods Emerald High School football team dropped two spots to No. 10 in Class 3A in the South Carolina Prep Football Media Poll released Tuesday, Oct. 13, while Daniel remained No. 1 in the classification.

The poll is compiled from a statewide panel of prep writers and broadcasters and was published with season records and first-place votes in parentheses. Class 5A stayed tight at the top between Dutch Fork and Northwestern, but the Class 3A note for local readers was Emeralds slide inside the top 10.

MaxPreps shows Emerald lost at Wren on Friday, Oct. 9, by a 37-30 score, the result that preceded this weeks ballot drop. Earlier, the Vikings beat Palmetto 41-3 on Oct. 2 and edged Saluda 55-54 on Sept. 25.

The Vikings play in The Emerald City, Greenwoods longtime nickname, and remain one of two city public high school football programs drawing Friday night attention along the Cokesbury Road corridor.

Daniel holds the Class 3A No. 1 ranking on the same media ballot. Statewide, only a handful of teams still chase undefeated seasons with three weeks of the regular season left on the High School On SI Top 25 snapshot.

Emeralds next stretch of the schedule will decide whether the Vikings climb back up the Class 3A ballot before region races harden into playoff seeding.
