Greenwood residents will not experience any local traffic disruptions from a recent incident that closed Highway 17 South in Brunswick County. The closure, which occurred on August 31, 2026, at 7:12 PM EDT, was due to a crash in Brunswick County. The situation was updated at 11:00 PM EDT on the same day.

This incident is geographically distant from Greenwood, which is located in Greenwood County, South Carolina. The city’s primary transportation arteries, such as those leading to Greenwood County Airport or connecting to major regional hubs like Augusta Regional Airport or Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, remain unaffected by the Brunswick County event.

Local law enforcement, including the Greenwood Police Department and the Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis D. Kelly’s office, have not reported any related traffic advisories or impacts within the city or surrounding Greenwood County. The 8th Circuit Solicitor’s office, which covers Greenwood, also has no connection to this incident.

Other unrelated events reported concurrently include an investigation into a neglect-related death in Chandler, where police arrested a son in connection with his grandmother’s death, an evacuation during a barricade situation also in Chandler, and a fatal shooting in Peoria where one person died after shooting another and then themselves. These incidents, like the Brunswick County crash, do not have any direct impact on the Greenwood area.
