RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has acquired Higgins Transport Service, a Charleston-based company specializing in port drayage and intermodal transportation services. This acquisition adds 15 drivers to RoadOne’s Charleston operations, increasing its drayage and intermodal capacity for the Southeastern market.

RoadOne, headquartered in Randolph, Massachusetts, is an asset-based provider offering intermodal, drayage, warehouse, and logistics services. The company operates with over 2,500 drivers across more than 100 port, railroad, and truckload terminals throughout the United States. RoadOne is supported by Ridgemont Equity Partners and Nonantum Capital Partners.

This expansion follows RoadOne’s recent opening of a 384,000-square-foot facility in Summerville, South Carolina, which serves the Port of Charleston. This 100-acre property provides transloading, storage, and distribution services across the Southeast. The company intends to add another 279,700-square-foot warehouse to the property next year. RoadOne directly manages nearly 5 million square feet of warehouse and transloading space and has access to an additional 85 million square feet through partnerships.

An executive vice president at RoadOne stated that the addition of Higgins Transport Service strengthens the company’s commitment to providing service throughout the Southeast global trade corridor and supporting customer supply chain needs. The owner of Higgins Transport expressed pride in building an operation that attracted a partner like RoadOne and anticipation for leveraging RoadOne’s national platform for client service and future growth.

This transaction reflects an ongoing trend of consolidation and infrastructure development within key port markets, enhancing RoadOne’s port drayage capabilities and broader supply chain services across the Southeast global trade corridor.
